چکیده

Four 1-cm2 fragments of polypropylene mesh were implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of each of 10 albino rats to evaluate biocompatibility. A straight longitudinal incision was made on the back of these animals and histological analysis was carried out at 7, 15 and 30 days. At 7 days, there was a mild inflammatory reaction around the implanted material. On day 15, the inflammatory process continued being discrete. The inflammatory reaction decreased significantly by day 30, when mild inflammation with cell infiltrate was observed, as well as the formation of a layer of fibrous tissue surrounding the implanted mesh. These results show the biocompatibility of the polypropylene mesh and support its use in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Efficacy of Polypropylene Mesh Coated with Bioresorbable Membrane (Sepramesh) for the Repair of Abdominal Wall Defects in Horses

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the use of Polypropylene mesh (Prolene) and Sepramesh, a coated Polypropylene mesh with a protective layer of Seprafilm on its visceral side, for the repair of abdominal wall defects in horses. We also aimed to quantify the consequent visceral adhesion and tissue inflammatio Design: Experimental study. Animals: Ten horses. Methods: The horses w...

Experimental study regarding the biocompatibility test of the Prolene (polypropylene abdominal mesh) product.

The polypropylene mesh, although is one of the most used prosthetic biomaterials for abdominal wall defects, proved not to be completely inert, generating from precocious foreign body inflammatory reactions (varying by individual reactivity, the amount of used material and its structure), to late complications such as chronic infections, stercoral fistulae or mesh migration. The present paper w...

Comparative evaluation of glycerolized bovine pericardium implant with prolene mesh for closure of large abdominal wall defects in dogs

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the use of polypropylene mesh and glycerol preserved bovine pericardium (GBP) to repaire abdominal wall defects in 24 clinically healthy mongrel dogs using inlay and underlay techniques. Twenty four healthy mongrel dogs were used in this study. The animals were divided into two main groups according to the type of the prosthetic material used. Each ...
